Mary Siegrist Hinz ’81 studied psychology at Mary Washington, graduated summa cum laude, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She founded, coached and played on the college's softball team and was also a member of the school's varsity basketball and field hockey teams. Mary was in her second year of law school at the College of William and Mary when she was tragically killed in a bicycle accident. At the time of her death, she was training for a triathlon, bicycling nearly 80 miles per day. Mary’s husband, Lt. Dan Hinz, U.S.N. and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Siegrist, established a scholarship in her memory and to inspire and assist students who exhibit the highest standards of intellectual achievement, moral character, citizenship, and athletic excellence.
